Abstract

Barium titanate prepared by two step sintering method is preferred for its small grain size approximately 1 µm and high piezoelectric constant 470. In this paper, finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to quantitatively determine the influence of external applied stress on the generated surface potential and polarization effect for both poled and unpoled BaTiO3. The modeling simulation verified that poled BaTiO3 is approximately 1.5 times more responsive to applied stress. The results also indicate that the maximum surface potential is generated when stress is applied parallel to the direction of electric dipole.
