Abstract

The measurement with strain gauges in the development of exhaust systems, to obtain dynamic cutting forces and moments is one of the most important methods to determine the component loadings. In this paper a new procedure for the computational determination of dynamic cutting forces from operating deflection shape analyses for exhaust systems is presented, that was developed at Eberspacher. This method closes a so far still open gap for the FE modelling of exhaust systems and gives possibilities for the faster and better correlation between measurement and calculation, for the reduction of measurements as well as for the determination of the test boundary conditions from computational operating deflection shape analyses, which are relevant for the components strength check.
