Abstract
A venturi scrubber is a device which is used to control air pollution in industries, because of their high efficiency to remove particles from gases. In the present work, venturi scrubber is used to clean Producer Gas (PG) generated from a biomass gasifier. Generally, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to analyze and solve problems in fluid flows. CFD simulation is done to reduce cost and shorten experimental periods. This paper reviews the CFD analysis of venturi scrubbers done by various researchers and proposes the adoption of CFD based solution for PG cleaning. The different approaches in CFD analysis such as Eulerian - Eulerian model, Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model, and K-ɛ turbulence model are used to predict hydrodynamic behavior of the fluids and also to find pressure drop, throat gas velocity, liquid to gas ratio, mass flow rates of liquid and gas inside the venturi scrubber.
