Abstract

This paper studies the principles of stereology, for which a set of computer programs has been developed in Qbasic and C++ languages, to determine stereological parameters that describe the shape of objects represented by its two-dimensional images. The verification tests show that the programs are reliable, the results with known geometric shapes differ very little in comparison with the manual computed ones, showing very little error. The program in C++ language was more efficient. This set of computer programs represent a low cost alternative for the determination of stereological parameters, when image analysis equipment is not available.
