Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper describes a new method of computing current distribution, Joule heating losses and inter-conductor forces in a simple go-and-return circuit and a three-phase circuit with metallic sheath. It may be applied to conductors of all shapes (preserving geometrical three-phase symmetry) and contains a new facet of conductor theory in that it can deal with composite conductors made up of several metals or high and low purity zones of the same metal. The analysis is based on the Ampere-Neumann circuit model of conducting bodies and requires a digital computer for handling operations on a large mutual inductance matrix. It is designed to aid the development of low-temperature a.c, power transmission lines utilizing normal conductors.
