Abstract

In the 1990s a variety of external and internal demands have converged that require batch plants to manage drawings, data and text as a business asset. This paper examines how one set of these demands, OSHA and EPA requirements, have rendered traditional plant information management procedures obsolete. Next, it introduces the elements of Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMMs): integrated technologies that have matured enough to satisfy comprehensive requirements for facility information management. Finally, it overviews a methodology for planning, cost-justifying and implementing a modern, plant-wide EDMS.
