Abstract
The need for product identification throughout its entire life cycle and especially at the operational stage when assessed by the consumer is considered. GOST 2.601—2006 provides three options for mandatory operational documents without clear recommendations for their use. Recommendation for their use is given. As an example, the problem of assessment of cutting tools in large-scale and mass production, where it is necessary to use a passport, is considered. For this purpose, a set of passport characteristics is proposed that reflect the main consumer properties of the product.
