Abstract

From liver of rats aged 1, 3, 6, 12 and 30 months a fully soluble chromatin was extracted, and its composition (DNA, RNA, histones, acid proteins) and properties were subjected to investigation, among these the template activity in RNA-polymerase systems of RNA synthesis and its thermal stability ( T m . A drop in acid protein content in 3 months old rat chromatin was established, as well as of acid proteins and RNA, associated with an enhanced T m in chromatin of old animals (30 months of age). A fall in template activity was detected in 30 month old rat liver chromatin.
