Abstract
This chapter reviews examples of composite material applications in sports equipment. The use of composite materials in selected sports applications will be reviewed. Discussion will be given about the background of the equipment and the design drivers for each application, and how composite materials help achieve the design requirements. Composite materials applications are discussed for the following sports. Summer sports: baseball and softball bats, fishing rods, inline skates, and lacrosse sticks. Winter sports: alpine skis, ski boots and ski poles, nordic skis, boots and ski poles, and snowshoes. Materials selection, material forms, and manufacturing methods are also reviewed for each application.
