Abstract

SummaryA comparative study on the relation between the cross‐linking strategy and binding capacity of Cu2+, and Ni2+, of some novel composite beads based on chitosan (CS) and poly(vinylamine) (PVAm), is presented in the paper. The equilibrium sorption capacity of the metal ions onto the CS/PVAm composite beads was strongly depending on the cross‐linking strategy, and on the metal ion. Thus, the maximum sorption capacity values obtained by fitting the Langmuir isotherm on the data at 25 °C were 192.57 mg Cu2+/g, and 175.05 mg Ni2+/g, for the in‐situ cross‐linked beads, and 166.55 mg Cu2+/g, and 130.97 mg Ni2+/g, for the post‐cross‐linked beads.
