Abstract
This study examined the epinephrine (EPI)-induced changes in second messengers of hepatocytes isolated from two tclcost fishes, the American eel (Anguilla rostrata) and the black bullhead (Ictalurus melas). EPI at 10 μM stimulated the production of cAMP and IP3 in both hepatocytes, although the changes in cAMP were greater than those for IP3. Specific binding of 3H-prazosin by purified hepatic membranes fits in with the existence of (α1-adrenoceptors on liver membranes from both species. These data support a role for both signal transduction pathways in the mode of action of EPI on fish liver cells.
