Abstract

Oncoplastic surgery combines oncological criteria for tumor resection and cosmetic criteria for breast remodeling. These procedures allow resection of a larger volume of breast tissue without contour deformity. However, these procedures are of high technical complexity and present specific complications that the breast surgeon must know and identify early, to be able to solve them without delaying adjuvant treatments. There are complications shared with standard lumpectomy such as seroma, infection, and bruising. All of them require drainage, and antibiotics in cases of infection, to avoid deformities after breast irradiation. Skin and / or CAP necrosis is the most serious and specific complication of oncoplastic procedures. They are usually secondary to major remodeling (type 2 oncoplasty) and its precise treatment of other highly complex oncoplastic techniques (local flap). For this reason, it is convenient that the breast units are equipped with a surgical team that combines expert surgeons (senior) with surgeons in training (junior). In this way, we can guarantee the treatment of these complications and the training of new surgeons in these highly complex procedures.
