Abstract

An indirect complexometric method for the determination of sulphur in pyrites and other sulphides is proposed. Sulphur is converted to sulphate by fusion with sodium peroxide, sulphate is precipitated by lead solution at pH 4 and the excess of lead nitrate is back-titrated by EDTA solution in the presence of Xylenol Orange as indicator. The method has been successfully used for numerous sulphur determinations in pyrite, copper, lead and zinc concentrates.
