Abstract

Abstract The paper deals with text coherence on the level of small text units. It is shown that on this level oscillations of structural complexity are observable in various texts, which create in it a specific rhythm and which are connected with the general principles of text generation. As material, literary prosec texts as well as musical compositions of the 18th to the 20th century are used. Musical texts are studied on the motif level, the literary texts ‐ on the level of words. By complexity of a unit the number of symbols in its symbolic representation (cf. below) is understood.
