Abstract
Chromium(III) reacts only with difficulty with thioureas, giving CrL 3X 3 complexes (L = thiourea or substituted thiourea; X = halide). Such species undergo solvolysis in solvents like dimethylformamide, dimethylsulphoxide or acetonitrile; dissociation of one X − ion and one or two L ligands occurs. Electronic spectra are reported and discussed for both the CrL 3X 3 species and the solvolysis products. The spectrochemical strength of thioureas appears to be particularly low, in comparison with data on thiourea complexes of other transition metals.
