Abstract

We calculate and compile complex eigenfrequencies of spheroids and finite-length cylinders for electromagnetic and acoustic vibrations. This includes eigenvibrations of nonlongitudinal type, studied by us earlier for the first time. We provide a physical explanation for these in terms of the resonances caused by the phase matching of helical surface waves on the object.
