Abstract

A novel compact multi-ultrawideband (multi-UWB) and multi-dual-band frequency reconfigurable annular sector slot antenna (FR-ASSA) is presented for wireless applications. Three measured UWB states (3.48-5.5, 5.18-7.35, and 6.06-8.05 GHz) are achieved using six p-i-n diodes employed across a moderately wide slot inserted in a 32 × 35 mm 2 ground plane. Furthermore, 18 dual-band states with independent tuning ability of each band are provided. In dual-band states, the measured frequency tuning ranges are from 2.5 to 3.22 GHz (1.29:1) for the first resonance ( f1) and from 4.36 to 6.58 GHz (1.51:1) for the second resonance ( f2). The proposed FR-ASSA can support the standards such as WiMAX lower and middle bands (2.5-28 and 5.2-5.8 GHz), 4G LTE 2500 (2500-2690 MHz), WLAN IEEE 802.11a (5.15-5.825 GHz), and UWB groups #1 (3.4-5 GHz), #2 (5-6.6 GHz), and #3 (6.6-8 GHz) spectrums.
