Abstract
Based on these complementary punctured convolutional codes, the authors propose and analyze a variation of the type II hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) scheme called the generalized self-decodable (GSD) type II hybrid ARQ scheme. The main advantage of this scheme is that any additional sequence sent for a packet that is detected with errors is self-decodable, i.e., the decoder does not have to rely on previously received sequences for the same data packet for decoding, as is the case with incremental redundancy ARQ schemes. The feature is desirable especially in situations where a transmitted packet can be lost or severely damaged as a result of interference. >
