Abstract

DOI: https://doi.org/10.32444/IJSW.2018.79.1.55-64 The present article is an attempt to understand the process of competency development through fieldwork training, challenges experienced and skills acquired by foreign students to practice social work in a culturally different society. In-depth interviews were conducted with two students, their fieldwork supervisors, co-workers and other stakeholders regarding fieldwork. The findings have been analysed in relation to issues related to fieldwork, efforts made by students for overcoming the challenges, acquisition of skills for effective practice in a cross-cultural setting during the fieldwork .
