Abstract

The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Respiratory Care (ACPRC) identified concerns among its members regarding perceived variability of practice in the delivery of on-call physiotherapy. They responded by developing a national set of guidelines on competence and its assessment in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. The second part to this article develops the issues surrounding the provision of on-call services within the physiotherapy profession. It demonstrates how the ACPRC and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy used the standards of the profession to develop a tool to help individuals and organizations address the issues of developing and maintaining competence within this particular setting.
