Abstract
Results of field experiments to study the compatibility between insecticides and fungicides in order to manage the sheath blight disease along with rice stem borer and leaf folder simultaneously, are reported. Two antifungal compounds, validamycin @ 2.5 mL L−1 and hexaconazole @ 2.0 mL L−1 and two insecticides, rynaxypyr @ 0.3 mL L−1 and cartap hydrochloride @ 1.0 g L−1 were used individually as well as in various combinations. All the combinations were effective in controlling both the disease and insects by retaining the individual efficacy and without any phytotoxic effect. Validamycin + rynaxypyr was most effective to control both the disease and the insects simultaneously with the highest yield (61.2 q ha−1) and highest B: C ratio (2.52). It recorded least sheath blight disease severity (5.74 PDI) as well as least dead hearts (1.98%) and white ear heads (1.95%) due to stem borer and least leaffolder damaged leaves (3.77%) among all the combination treatments. A spraying of validamycin @ 2.5 ml L−1 in combination with rynaxypyr @ 0.3 ml L−1 thrice at 15 d interval starting as blanket application from 15 d after transplanting is recommended as tank mix to manage sheath blight, stem borer and leaf folder in rice.
