Abstract
N umerous clinical and laboratory studies have been related to the use of alginate (irreversible hydrocolloid) as an impression materia1.‘-36 In recent years increased interest has been focused on studies of detail reproduction on casts poured against irreversible hydrocolloid impressions and compatibility relationships between impression materials and dental stones.‘9-24 One compatibility study involving type II normal set impression materials was completed in 1971, but few references are to be found concerning compatibility of stone and type I (fast set irreversible hydrocolloid). The purpose of this study, therefore, was to evaluate the compatibility relationships of 12 type I irreversible hydrocolloids and three dental stones.
