Abstract

This paper discusses the comparison of different modulation techniques for a symmetrical 9-level cascaded H- bridge multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive. For all the modulation studies carried out flat topped sine wave is used as the reference wave which increases the fundamental voltage and reduces the switching losses. The comparative study of different modulation techniques like PD, POD, APOD and Phase shift for a 9-level inverter is done and based on the results obtained, POD PWM is chosen as the efficient technique with reduced THD output for the better performance of single phase induction motor load. The performance characteristics like speed and torque of the induction motor are also obtained.
