Abstract

Objective To compare the curative effects of breast areola edge incision and maimstone rotary excision (MMT) in minimally invasive surgery for benign breast tumors. Methods The clinical data of 112 patients with benign breast tumor from January 2013 to January 2015 were analyzed. Patients were divided into observation group and control group. Seventy-two patients in observation group were treated by areola edge incision. Forty patients in control group were treated by minimally invasive surgery. The intraoperative bleeding, operation time, incidence of hematoma, incision healing, recurrence rate were compared. Patients were followed up for 1 year to record patients’ satisfaction on appearance after surgery. Results There was no significant difference in healing rate, recurrence rate and satisfaction rate on cosmetic results between the two groups (P>0.05). The intraoperative blood loss and operation time in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The incidence of hematoma in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Both areola edge incision and maimstone rotary excision are cosmetic operation for breast and can achieve good aesthetic requirements. The areola edge incision is one of the open operations, although by which the operation time and the amount of bleeding are much more than that of maimstone rotary excision, there are fewer complications and lower medical costs. Key words: Breast; Areola edge incision; Mammotome; Breast benign tumor
