Abstract

Polyethersulfone (PES) UF retentive membranes developed to be used for virus retention have been characterized by dextran retention and liquid-liquid displacement porosimetry (LLDP). Results have been used to obtain the pore size distributions (PSD) of such membranes from both techniques.The comparison of pore size distributions obtained from both techniques suggests that PSD strongly correlates with retention capabilities and performance of the membrane, being LLDP a fast and reliable way to estimate MWCO of the analysed membranes. The method used here can be standardised to make it an accurate and convenient way to asses' possible applications for a given filter.
