Abstract

Abstract A comparative study of Pseudomonas aeruginosa enumeration methods was carried out on different types of water. Two membrane filter (MF) and two Most Probable Number (MPN) multiple tube techniques were compared, with typical colonies being biochemically identified for confirmation. Results were analysed for sensitivity and specificity. MF techniques presented higher specificity than MPN procedures and for salt water samples the MF procedure based on MPA‐B medium presented higher sensitivity than the MF procedure based on MPA medium.
