Methods 100 patients with lumbar disc herniation according to the different surgical approaches were divided into MED group (n =50) and OD group (n =50) , The indicators of blood loss, operative time, hospitalization time, nerve root injury, relieve sciatica were observed in two groups. Results The rate of excellent in MED group (90. 0% ) were higher than OD group (80. 0% ) (χ~2 = 3.99, P < 0. 05); The indicators of blood loss, operative time, hospitalization time in MED group were less than OD group (t = 2.412,t=2.498,<=2.518,t =2.416,all P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with OD group,MED offer a similar short-term clinical outcome, but with smaller incision, less tissue trauma and quicker recovery.
