Abstract

Objective To compare the accuracy of the Guy’s and S. T.O.N.E scoring systems in predicting percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) outcomes. Methods Clinical data of 172 patients underwent PCNL between June 2014 and May 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Guy’s and S. T.O.N.E scoring systems were calculated before surgery. Regression analysis were performed to compare stone free rate, complications rate, operative time, length of hospital stay. Results The overall stone-free rate was 70.9 %(122/172) with a complication rate of 15.7 %(27/172). Compared with patients with residual fragments, stone-free patients had significantly lower Guy’s grade (2.6 vs. 1.9, P 0.05). Conclusions Both Guy’s and S. T.O.N.E scoring systems have comparable accuracies in predicting post-PCNL stone-free rate, operative time and length of hospital stay. Other factors may need to be incorporated in the future to increase their accuracy. Key words: Kidney Calculi; Nephrostomy, Percutaneous
