Abstract

Background levels in detectors at future high-luminosity colliders of three different types — pp , e + e − and μ + μ − — are analyzed. Two sources — debris from the collision points and those from an accelerator tunnel — are studied. It is shown that hadron, electron and muon colliders are similar and very different at the same time with respect to background origin, integrated radiation levels and instantaneous rates of particles in the detectors.
