Abstract
A comparison is made between Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) finite element formulations for simulation of forming processes based on an artificial dissipation scheme and a limited flux scheme. The first ALE algorithm is based on an averaging procedure used in post-processing of finite element calculations. The second ALE algorithm stems from a finite difference method for compressible fluid dynamics. Both approaches have complementary characteristics with respect to accuracy and implementation. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
