Abstract

Almost every country has its own design guideline on channel width. Difierent channel width design guidelines consider various main factors, and may lead to difierent design results even under the same design conditions for the same design ship. After primary comparisons between difierent channel width design guidelines, the evaluation indexes were chosen considering navigation safety and e‐ciency. And the Grey-TOPSIS correlation method was introduced to calculate the comprehensive grey relative closeness of each scheme to rank them. Also, the Yangtze Estuary Deepwater Channel was chosen to be the design target to illustrate the proposed method. After comparison and evaluation, each guideline’s design efiect in guaranteeing the navigation safety and navigation e‐ciency becomes much clearer.
