Abstract

This paper exhibits the execution of a three phase distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) by utilizing a back propagation control algorithm (BPCA) for harmonic elimination, reactive power compensation and power factor correction (PFC) under linear and non-linear load conditions. This paper compares BPCA strategies with synchronous reference frame theory (SRFT) strategies. These control algorithms are used to generate the switching pulses for IGBTs of the VSC of DSTATCOM. BPCA is based on the extraction of the fundamental weighted value of active and reactive power components of load currents which are required for the estimation of reference source current. Extraction of harmonic component decides the performance of compensating devices. BPCA and SRFT based DSTATCOM are simulated with MATLAB using Simulink for linear and non linear loads. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of DSTATCOM under these control algorithms.
