Abstract
The standard IEEE 1901 has recommended windowed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and wavelet OFDM as multicarrier techniques for broadband communications over the power line network. The former is one of multicarrier modulations mostly used by different wired and wireless broadband communication standards, whereas the latter, which basically is an Extended Lapped Transform-based multicarrier modulation (ELT-MCM), has received less attention. This paper is aimed at providing a comparison between the data rate of both systems, assuming a class 5 channel as PLC scenario, in order to show that ELT-MCM is a feasible solution for in-home power line communications (PLC) in terms of data rate.
