Abstract

This paper focused on the materials selection for the connecting rod (CoR) in the internal combustion engine (ICE). The power stroke of ICE directly hit on the piston and reciprocated by the CoR. The light weight of CoR delivers the high performance on the transmission of rotary motion. The aluminium is the lightweight material compare to the conventional mild steel material used in the CoR. The hardness of the aluminium is lower than mild steel. The hardness of the aluminium is improved by the hybrid aluminium metal matrix composite (AluMMC). This research focus on developing structural model finite element analyse (FiEA) of CoR and comparing three AluMMC. The three AluMMC are AlSiC, Al7075, and AlSiCMoS2.
