Abstract

Substance abuse is one of the psychological disorders that various causes and factors are effective in shaping it. The aim of this study was to investigate the comparison of emotional self-awareness, ambiguity tolerance and resilience among the addicted and normal individuals in Tehran in 2017. The research method was causal-comparative. The statistical population was all addicted and normal people in Tehran in 2017. The sample consisted of 80 individuals including 40 addicted persons and 40 normal persons in Tehran who were selected based on single stage cluster sampling. The instruments for measuring the research were Bar-On emotional self-awareness (1997), ambiguity tolerance of Riddle-Rosen's (1990) and resilience of Connor and Davidson (2003) questionnaires. The reliability of the questionnaires was calculated using Cronbach's alpha method and its value for the questionnaires was higher than 0.7. Also, content validity was used to validate the questionnaire. For this purpose, the questionnaires were approved by the relevant experts. Analysis of the information obtained from the implementation of the questionnaires was done through the spss-22 software in two descriptive and inferential sections. The results showed that there is a significant difference between emotional self-awareness, ambiguity tolerance and resilience among the addicted and normal individuals (P<0.05). Therefore, this issue suggests that cognitive factors should be considered in preventing drug abuse and its treatment.
