Abstract

Since the DSM-IV criteria were published in 1994, the tripartite division of ADHD into Inattentive Type (IA), Hyperactive–Impulsive Type (HI), and Combined Type (C) has been a focus of ongoing debate. Some have argued that IA may be a separate disorder from the other two subtypes (e.g., Barkley, 2001). Others (e.g., Pelham, 2001) suggest that the subtypes, while somewhat distinct, nonetheless are similar in treatment response and performance on a range of psychological measures.
