Abstract
THE preventive action of Vioform (Iodochloroxyquinoline) against blackhead of turkeys has been reported in an earlier publication by the writers (Poultry Sci. 27: 356–366). Subsequent experiments with other quinoline derivatives, however, were undertaken in the hope of finding a more economical form of treatment. Recent investigations have shown that chlorohydroxyquinoline (Ciba) has blackhead preventive properties comparable with Vioform.MATERIALS AND METHODSThe general plan of experimental procedure employed for investigations with chlorohydroxyquinoline was similar to that previously followed in trials with Vioform. Cultures of Histomonas meleagridis were employed to infect both medicated and control groups of young turkeys with blackhead. In the present tests, however, there were two medicated groups in each experiment, with one control group receiving no treatment. One of the medicated groups received mash containing one percent of chlorohydroxyquinoline, and the other received mash containing one percent of Vioform. Both drugs in powdered form were mixed .
