Abstract

This paper presents a comparative study of Solar energy fed different DC-DC converters with different speed controllers for Brushless DC motor (BLDC) drive with trapezoidal back electromotive force (emf). Due to the rising energy crunch a Solar Panel has been used to feed the input DC to the converter. Different bridgeless DC-DC Buck-Boost converter has been designed for this work and their efficiency, cost and losses are compared. Due to the multi quadrant operation capability of Buck _boost converter it is further used for the speed control purpose of the proposed motor drive. For speed control analysis, conventional PI and fuzzy logic controller has been used for BLDC motor drive. The performance of conventional PI and Fuzzy controller is compared under variable reference speed and load disturbance for different parameters of BLDC motor drive. Various different parameters such as rise time, peak overshoot, dynamic range etc has been compared for these controller. The proposed work has been simulated in Matlab/Simulink and the obtained results give a comparative study of the error capability and effectiveness of conventional PI and Fuzzy controller.
