Abstract
We report the results of a first-principles theoretical study of the high-pressure phase diagram of Si and Ge, with a particular emphasis on the Cmca and r8 phases which have been recently discovered in Si. Our results for these phases are in excellent agreement with the available experimental observations in the case of Si and we predict the formation of similar phases in Ge.
