Abstract

Ni-Zn-Fe-SiO2 Nanoparticle catalyzed multicomponent reaction of acenaphthequinone, dimedone and 2-aminobenzimidazole in ethanol is carried out. This method has been applied for the synthesis of spiroacenaphthylene with good to excellent yield. In this study a comparison is made on sol–gel method and co-precipitation method by preparing Ni-Zn-Fe-SiO2 nanoparticles. The prepared ferrite sample were calcined and characterized by using XRD, FT-IR and SEM analysis. The XRD analysis and SEM images indicated the crystallinity and the particle size of the composite is in between 17 and 27 nm. The FT-IR analysis reveals the different type of interactions in the composite. This again confirmed the nanoparticles formation. The studies revealed that the sol -gel method is more effective than co-precipitation method in increasing the yield of product with less time consumption.
