Abstract

We carried out systematic investigation on the processes and characteristics of REBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ or RE123 (RE=Nd, Sm, Eu, Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb) films on single crystal SrTiO/sub 3/ for coated conductors. The higher transition temperature, the higher growth rate, and the much better surface morphology for the large RE's such as Nd123, Sm123, and Eu123 make them attractive for thick films. The larger processing window for some other RE123 materials such as Dy123 and Yb123, on the other hand, makes them striking for scale-up and fabrication of long-length conductors. In the case of mixed RE's, enhanced pinning from ion size variance is also observed. We present our comparative study of the field- and angle-dependent critical current densities between these RE123 and Y123 films.
