Abstract

The engine generator is widely used as a power supply and emergency power supply. The generation voltage is regulated by exciting current supplied with automatic voltage regulator (AVR). In most cases, the classical PID controller is applied to the AVR system. In order to obtain a robust controller, an H/sub /spl infin// control algorithm is applied. Comparison of digital AVR for use on engine generator between H/sub /spl infin// control and direct design PID is described in this paper. The result is verified by some model analysis and experimental set-up including a 4-pole 5 kVA engine generator. Robust H/sub /spl infin// control is be possible to reduce system noise, measurement noise.
