Abstract

The present research proposes the investigation of environmentally-safe fossil fuels and its performance on the diesel engine. The rising consumption rate of fossil fuel leads to enhance air deterioration levels of the environment. In the present study, research on Karanja methyl esters, Kusum methyl esters, and Mahua methyl esters with different blending ratios has been carried out as fuel for agriculture-based DI diesel engine. Kusum methyl esters blends shows better thermal efficiency at full load as well as part load (2 kW to 3 kW). KUB10. KUB20 show better Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) and Brake Power (BP) among all tested fuels and almost equal to that of diesel fuel without any modification. Among the test blends of KUB10 shows lesser BSFC, 52 gm/kWh at full engine load condition. Overall Kusum biodiesel blend (KUB10) shows better performance in terms of thermal efficiency, fuel consumption per kilowatt (BSFC) and brake power. With the blending of Kusum biodiesel (KUM40), the viscosity increased up to 3.35 cSt resulting in better performance on the diesel engine.
