Abstract

1. 1. The effects of several antimitotic alkaloids on transmission at the frog and rat neuromuscular junctions have been studied. 2. 2. In frogs, vincristine and vinblastine increased the frequency of spontaneous miniature end-plate potentials (MEPPs), facilitated the appearance of spontaneous giant MEPPs, and decreased MEPP amplitude. Vincristine did not alter the mean number of quanta(m) released by an action potential in the nerve-terminal. 3. 3. In rats, vincristine and vinblastine had no effect on MEPP frequency and amplitude. Colchicine decreased MEPP amplitude but did not change MEPP frequency.
