Abstract
Nanoparticles composed of poly (lactic‑co‑glycolic acid) (PLGANPs) and silver (AgNPs) are relevant in the context of their interactions with biological systems. This study aims to evaluate the potential in vitro cytotoxic effects of both PLGANPs and AgNPs on a human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line (Caco‑2). The impact of nanoparticles on cellular toxicity, morphology, microvilli density and viscoelasticity were assessed. After 48 hours incubation with PLGANPs, cells exhibited a modest proliferation compared to the control (6 to14%), low reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production (2 μM) and higher microvilli densities. In contrast, AgNPs displayed significant toxicity (LC50 = 3.76 μg/mL) and elevated RNS production.
