Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive review on various methods for calculating the energy consumption for building operation. These methods are classified into five categories, including methods based on energy statistics, simulation methods based on unsteady state of energy consumption, the simplification methods based on steady state of energy consumption, energy rating label methods and energy monitoring methods. Through comparing and analyzing the characteristics, calculation content and scope of the application of these five methods, the advantages and disadvantages, applicability of each method to different type of buildings are examined. The results of this paper can be used to guide users to choose suitable method to calculate the operation energy consumption of the buildings with different types and architectural characteristics.
