Abstract

The present study analysed and compared the economic efficiency of water use by irrigation agriculture and plantation forestry in the Crocodile River catchment. In addition to average physical productivity measures, economic efficiency of water use was evaluated using the net terminal value approach. Results show that irrigation agriculture dominate plantation forestry in terms of economic efficiency of water use. Large margins of direct economic benefits are realised from water use in the catchment that are much higher than current water charges.
