Abstract
Permanent Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance (PMASR) motors are considered as alternate to traditional induction motors and synchronous reluctance motors owing to its improved power factor, efficiency, reduced ripple torque and high torque density. The applications which employ this type of motor includes pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors and mixers. The aim of this work is to study on effect of PMASR motors with NdFeB magnets along with ferrite magnets and conventional Synchronous Reluctance motor with respect to torque performance, size, efficiency, cost and Von-Mises stress performance. The parameter varied in this work is stack length with fixed diameter therefore adopting a uniform stator design and winding scheme. The results of this work provides insight into the various performance measures with choice of different magnets.
