Abstract

As typical controllers of Line Commutated Converter based High Voltage Direct Current (LCC-HVDC) system, constant voltage controller and constant extinction angle controller have been widely used in various LCC-HVDC projects. When different control strategies are adopted, the control parameters have a great difference on the small signal stability of the LCC-HVDC system. Firstly, the small signal models of LCC-HVDC system with constant voltage control and constant extinction angle control are established respectively. By comparing the dynamic characteristics of the small signal model with that of the electromagnetic transient model, the correctness of the small signal model is verified. Then, based on the parameters of a practical project, the eigenvalue analysis method is used to compare the effects of constant voltage controller and constant extinction angle controller on the small signal stability of LCC-HVDC system, and the correctness of results is verified by electromagnetic transient simulation. This work can provide valuable guide for the design of control system and selection of control system parameters of LCC-HVDC projects.
