Abstract

Abstract Prediction and comparative analysis of ultimate tensile strength in friction stir butt welding of Aluminium alloy-AA8011 and Magnesium alloy-AZ31B using different tool rotational speed, tool travel feed and tool tilt angle for cylindrical thread and straight square profile pin are presented in this work. The methodology is based on Taguchi method and the regression analysis. In this comparative experimental study, the purpose is to establish a correlation between the tool rotational speed, tool travel speed and tool tilt angle with the induced ultimate tensile strength in the weld for cylindrical thread and straight square profile pin. Analysis of variance is employed to find influence factor. The best tool is identified based on ultimate tensile strength value and also prediction is carried out for best tool profile pin. From this comparative analysis found that tool rotational speed is most important factor for cylindrical thread and straight square profile pin.
